The trend has some way to go, yet it's visibly and steadily growing, as digits point out about Software as a Service, otherwise known as on-demand software, or server hosted application, or in plain english: don't bother buy obsolete licenses and degradable hardware, but do your business throughout the wires with thin clients on remote secure and robust servers. Liam Lahey writes on the echannelline.com:
According to a newly published IDC Corp. study, the acceptance of Software as a Service (SaaS) delivery models, which includes software on-demand and hosted application management (hosted AM), continued gathering momentum and customer mind share in 2005 and the trend is expected to continue in 2006.
Framingham, Mass.-based IDC estimated that worldwide spending on SaaS reached $4.2 billion (U.S.) in 2004 and the IT consultancy anticipates that spending will reach $10.7 billion by 2009, representing a 21 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR).
Thus, IDC expects SaaS providers will pay particular attention to developing and increasing partnerships in order to expand revenue streams and customer adoption in the upcoming year.
